Nigerian troops have intensified operations against insurgents in Borno State following the recent attack on Miringa community, launching a coordinated clearance mission that led to the destruction of suspected terrorist hideouts.
The operation, carried out by troops of Operation HADIN KAI alongside local hunters, targeted areas believed to have been used by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as temporary bases and escape routes after the attack.
Joint Security Operation Targets Terrorist Strongholds
According to a report by counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation began in the early hours of July 10 and was led by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion.
The mission was launched in response to the terrorist assault on Miringa community in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military personnel were divided into four combat teams and worked alongside 25 local hunters from the Buratai and Kurnari communities. The security team was supported by an EQ-series tactical vehicle, three gun trucks, and 15 motorcycles to improve mobility across difficult terrain.
Troops Sweep Suspected Terrorist Routes
The combined force advanced through the Mangari, Bulazarma, and Dora axis—locations believed to have served as movement corridors and temporary assembly points for insurgents fleeing after the attack on Miringa.
Security forces conducted extensive cordon-and-search operations across the affected areas in an effort to locate fleeing terrorists and recover hidden weapons, ammunition, and other operational supplies.
Hideouts Destroyed Despite No Direct Encounter
Although the troops did not engage directly with suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP fighters during the operation, they discovered and destroyed several makeshift camps believed to have been used as temporary shelters and staging grounds by the insurgents.
The destruction of these hideouts is expected to disrupt terrorist movements and reduce their ability to regroup within the area.
Military Sustains Pressure on Insurgents
Operation HADIN KAI has continued to carry out offensive operations across Nigeria’s North-East as part of ongoing efforts to weaken insurgent groups operating in the region.
Security operations involving military personnel and local volunteers have increasingly focused on denying terrorists access to safe havens, logistics routes, and operational bases.
